One year ago, I was out of shape in every way. I was suffering from severe anxiety and depression and dreaded the thought of getting out of bed each day. I was gaining weight back that I had years before worked so hard to lose. I constantly felt tired and at one point even had anxiety attacks on a daily basis. I knew that something had to change as my state of being was negatively affecting my family, friendships, and job. I sought professional help and was put on medications – something I never wanted. I began taking Jenna Sullivan’s yoga classes and learned how to be conscious of my thinking and breathing patterns. We worked out a diet plan based on what I actually would eat; and by our next meeting, I had begun weeding out unhealthy foods and trying new foods that were better choices for my body and mind. A great part of Jenna’s approach is that she doesn’t just address diet alone…she observes the whole being – the body, the mind, the spirit. Jenna continued to offer support and advice throughout my journey; and after two months, I had dropped 10 pounds and shed inches all over – especially in my “problem area” (my tummy). I was a drive thru addict. Whenever life was stressful instead of feeling my feelings I drove thru drive thrus for a quick fix. I joined the Weight-loss From Within, a program that Jenna offers every quarter, and it really supported me in making some changes. This program met on every Saturday for 2 hours every 6 weeks. The first hour was devoted to a nutrition lecture and the second hour was devoted to yoga. I have not seen a drive thru since starting this program. Jenna is very inspiring instructor and her practice is very beautiful. I started yoga to help relieve my lower back pain and correct my poor posture which I had in my everyday life. I had a few classes with her and noticed she not only focuses on physical importance of yoga but also mental wellbeing very much. One time in her class she showed us how to do the tripod headstand. I thought of course I cannot do it, but decided to give it a try anyway. And she guided me through the pose and there I was doing it on my first attempt. I was shocked and could not believe it because I always used to think of myself as a failure at any kind of sports or fitness activity and quiet honesty hated any type of sports. But this experience and many more like this, all changed my inner world for sure letting me realize there was strength and energy within me while I always seek it from the outside world. I have known Jenna for a few months now. I have fibromyalgia, and I am trying to eat healthy and work out as much as possible to get fit, lose weight and control my pain. I started with Jenna doing private Yoga lessons, and discovered she is also very knowledgeable in holistic nutrition and the use of natural supplements. I began meeting Jenna for nutritional counseling as well as Yoga. I have enjoyed my nutrition sessions with her, and I always look forward to the Yoga sessions. I find her techniques for de-stressing and pushing through anxiety very helpful and I am able to use these techniques when I feel myself becoming anxious. At night, especially, because I also suffer from insomnia (a symptom of the fibromyalgia). I use the technique of controlled breathing to come back to a state of peace and calm. By using imagery and envisioning a beach at sunset with the waves lapping at the shore, I time my breathing to the rhythm of the waves. She also taught me the technique of tapping to take my focus off of whatever has pushed me to anxiety, and then with the controlled breathing, I have been able to return to a state of calm. Very very helpful!
By eating organically, and with the use of natural supplements, I have been able to shorten my recovery time between my weight workouts, walking and Yoga. I am more active and I am actually enjoying more the things that I love to do! I love playing with my only grand daughter, traveling with my husband and family, going to the lake, and working out! I am beginning to see a difference in my weight, as well as my pain levels. I am beginning to see a difference in my weight, as well as my pain levels. I recommend to anyone that has been encouraged by their physician to de-stress and get up and move to improve their quality of life, to take Jenna's Yoga classes, and if you are in need of losing weight seek advice from Jenna on holistic nutrition.
